Hi all. I have a 1.4 Corsa LE 65 plate. Since I've had the car the engine makes quite a loud ticking noise when idling... It's been taken back to Vauxhall dealership twice and they say there is no problem and one of the engineers said he could not hear anything at all. It sounds like I'm sitting in a diesel car!! It's just had it's first service since I got the car and decided to try some Hydraulic valve lifter in with the new oil to see if that would help....nothing. Does anybody else have this annoying problem? And what can I do to fix it? Thanks

Hello everybody and greetings from Poland. At first i want to apologize for my English :( Dear Ainsley, i've got the same problem with my 1.4 75horse power Corsa it was made in 2016 but the model is 2017 and it makes a lot of weird noises, but only when the engine temperature is reached. When the engine is cold there's no sounds. I dont know what to do about it...

Hi everyone. Did anyone find out what the cause of the noise was?

I've recently bought a corsa 1.4l 2015, and as described above it makes an occasional loud ticking noise when idling but only when the engine has warmed up. It goes again when I'm driving.

I'll try to upload a video of the noise.

I thought maybe injectors ticking,,if I open bonnet I can't hear it,?
Interesting you mentioned injectors. I had a similar thought, maybe the hydraulic lifters, but on a car that's barely two years old, this shouldn't be an issue.

I did get the noise again yesterday, a loud high pitched ticking. It got me scared and I turned the engine off straight away. The noise didn't return when I started it up again, so I couldn't get a recording. I'm still on the hunt for it though :) .

If it's when the engine is warmed up, could it be the radiator fan? I'm not sure about all cars, but I think the fan will kick on at about 92 degrees....maybe the fan kicks on and it's catching on something? No idea, a very bizarre issue, but you should definitely take it to an independent garage, get their unbias view.

Sounds like a hydraulic valve lifter to me. Back in the old times we had to adjust the valve clearances with a feeler gauge to the correct clearance, then they changed to automatic adjustment saving labour times and keeping the engine in tune. Inside the lifter is a small ball bearing being held on the seat with a very small spring. If the lifter drains slightly due to the ball coming away from it's seat it loses oil and the clearance increases causing the tap, just like we use to have but only one lifter out of 16 is faulty. We use to get all 8 valves out of adjustment so made a lot more noise not just a tap.

Hi all I have a 2016 corsa sting and have the exact same problem you can hear a loud ticking/ rattling noise inside the car when the engine has warmed up and is then sat idling, also when driving in gears 1 to 3 sounds like a Diesel engine, I have it booked in for its winter check so will post reply if they find anything

I've had mine in for the winter health check and mentioned it to them (Evans halshaw) and the mechanic said there was nothing wrong with it only seems to happen when the car engine temp reaches 90 degrees, might take it to a main vauxhall garage and see what they say.

Hi guys.
My corsa is 2016 sri 1.4 petrol ,i buy it with 9k miles .
This noise was strong when i started the car in the morning.
Went in the vauxhall and they told it was the timing chain that they could replace because it has guarantee.
I brought the car there to leave for that replacement and after some hours when I called them to know if it was ready, they told it was ready and that noise is standard of this car.
I took the car,I could see..it has less noise. They did something but still the noise.
Really unhappy with vauxhall...so is standard to have a noise like that in the car?

Another thing happened with me,they scratched my car twice....wheel and bumper.
No more vauxhall...it's enough.
Next car sure will be another brand.

Has anyone found the solution to this

I have recently purchased a Corsa SE Auto 2015 and noticed the same problem

When Engine is cold it is fine, but when it reaches Temperature, and only when making small forward or backward manuvers the ticking starts. When you get going it goes away, but this is concerning for me as it is a new car for us.

Please note that the noise happens also (when engine is at temp) when the heated windscreen is turned on!!

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated

thanks

Ash

Hi guys I have the same issue with my 65 plate 1.2 Corsa e. I've had it since July last year and it ticks whenever it hits temperarure or whenever i use things like AC, de-mister, fan etc. In the morning sometimes I get a warning sign coming up saying "engine power reduced ." However There's no engine management light on the dash when I'm driving. The loud ticking sound comes from the right side of the engine and sounds as if the timing has gone on it or something. The ticking noise goes after I turn off the electrical components I mention ed above. I'm pretty confused as the car only done 20k and it's getting really annoying. Regarding to the "engine power reduced" sign I've plugged the computer on it and there were no faults whatsoever. If anyone has experienced anything like this and got it fixed please let me know thank you.

Hello.

Had ticking noise in engine part, minutes after starting it from cold. Before even reaching working temp.
Fixed under warranty and it was faulty "valve for exaust gases" something..... Can't technically explain. At the service they knew what was faulty because another 2 corsas with same issue.

Fault on turbo and non.....

This is brilliant thank you, I am going to have a look at this for mine. I've done a fair few other bits an bobs maintenance wise now so I am hoping that this wouldn't be too difficult to sort.

If you do attempt this post some pics

You can get the tank vent value bracket from Genuine Parts search for £7.34 delivered but not the vent hose clip
