Fuel consumption

Hi all,

Just curious as to how many miles I should expect from my petrol 1.4? At the moment I seem to be getting like a maximum of 250 to a full tank. Is this normal or should I get it looked at?

I've had 2 corsa c's and 1 corsa d and they were all far better than this.

Kind regards,
Oliver

How are you driving it? Ragging it everywhere and short journeys?
250 to a tank is pretty poor, it's gotta be less than 30MPG that from a quick work out!

From my 1.4T which is remapped, so isn't as good as from the factory. I regularly see about 320-340 miles before needing to needing to fill up and that isn't from empty, usually when the light comes on I put more in.

On a long run I can get 450miles to a tank (recently got that goin down to Santa Pod and back from up near Manchester plus driving about down there).

Get it looked at. What is the service history like? Could also try running some injector cleaner through it, could also be a poorly O2 sensor in the exhaust, though if it was bad it would usually bring a check engine light on.

I've tried everything to increase the efficiency - kept revs below 2k as much as possible, tried using cruise control and the speed limiter, drive with the blowers off. Just about everything but nothing seems to improve.

I bought the car in December it has done 9500 miles on a 17 plate and all the service history seemed fine. Normally I get about 65 miles from the first bar of fuel but filled up Monday and after 45 miles I've already lost the first bar. One of my colleagues thinks it could maybe be a slow fuel leak or a problem with the injectors (I know virtually nothing about car mechanics though) I tried using the STP injector cleaning probably February time but didn't notice any change. I used to drive a Honda HR-v and the STP stuff worked wonders so was hoping it would again.

I'll give the garage a call seen as I have a years warranty and see what they suggest.

Thank you all for your replies :)

Guys, what's your average speed?

I found out that when I mostly drive my 1.4 through the city with jams, I get around 9l/100km ~ 31 mpg with the average speed of around 15 km/h ~ 9.3 mph

If I am able to reach higher average speed - fuel consumption gets a lot better, the correlation is roughly like this:
20 mph - 40 mpg
40 mph - 50 mpg
etc

Update:

I took my car to Vauxhall for this problem and a couple of others and they told me there was absolutely nothing wrong. They had it for two full days and since coming back it is now getting between 375-400 miles per tank. Seems strange for the MPG increase but I'm happy it's sorted.

That's very interesting, indeed. Did you get any sort of paperwork that documents what they've done? Sounds fishy to me... I've done a major service (including spark plugs - the engine sounded cleaner afterwards) on mine and changed the tyres to more fuel efficient once and did an alignment... Of course at another dealership... The one I bought it from couldn't care less... At the moment it looks like for the first time ever I might reach way over 300 miles per tank... Fingers crossed...

I've kept an eye on mine since I got it in may this year.... Have done 5k with an average of 47.3mpg. That's with a mixture of fortnightly round trips (350miles) of mainly motorways and then daily stuff... Drives to train station etc.

The fortnightly trips are 50/50 motorways and a-roads and doing about 75 on the motorway and spritely a road driving I'm getting a great 53-55mpg.

This is in a 2015 1.4t LE... Well chuffed in a nutshell

I've been really pleased with fuel economy!

I've got the 1.4 (90bhp) model on a 68 plate (SE Nav Trim), I mostly do motorway miles (25 miles each way to work) but will often pop to the shops on my lunch which involves short drives sitting at traffic lights etc, some town driving etc.

From red with probably 10-20 miles showing, I put £30 petrol in and I've got 280 miles and it was still reading another 50-70 miles in the tank?

Basing that on petrol at £1.20 per litre, that's around 50mpg if my maths serves me correctly (for miles covered) so very pleased with that :)!!

Been on a trip to Scotland with my auto... While in town driving I get around 30 mpg, I got 40-44 mpg on my trip around Scotland (mostly A roads)... I think the auto gearbox is a bit shit in town because it stays in low gears until you reach 40 mph and won't let you shift up manually either... Gear ratio changes might help... But not sure how easy this would be.

I have a 17 plate E 1.4 petrol... I live in a rural area and driving locally, I get 10 miles per litre (45 mpg) and my first fuel bar drops at around 65 miles..recently went on a 2 week trip to Scotland, experienced both A & B roads, a lot of very rough single track roads..did 2600+ miles and averaged 54mpg... :)
