1.0T engine problems

Theres a good article by Honest John about rejecting cars. The problem is if the car was bought 11 months ago it would come under the 1984 Consumer act not the October 2015 rules.
Even then they are trying to rectify the problem and its way past the 6 months, and if its on finance theres another legal step required in that the finance company have to be involved. Rejection would be difficult to pull off just now without going to court. Is why I pay cash in preference to zero percent finance.
Still at least your parents have suggested rejection which should spur them on to fix it.

Yes I think all consumer laws expect you to deal with the contracted party which is the dealer.

This level of severity is quite rare these days. Since I dumped my old Viva in 1984 and started getting only new Vauxhalls I have only needed one courtesy car when a speedo cable snapped. We were loaned a new Corsa B which was not fitted with power steering in those days. Awful!. However insisting on it under the terms at that time of the Roadside Assistance it speeded up the repair from quoted 2 weeks to 1 day!

My D had a dealer remap recall to reduce plug fouling. That can cause preignition if the carbon builds up. When you are pulling as much power from a 1.0T as you do on a 1.4na you must be so close to disaster if the mapping is a bit off.

Any help or advice would be appreciated. MY 2015 corsa has been with the local dealer for 8 weeks, they now say that it needs a new engine! it has done 8500 miles and was registered in April 2015.
It started to sound like a tractor 200 yds from home, as I pulled up the oil warning light came on. Added oil and it came out as quick as it went in. Recovery company took to local dealer on tow truck.
Vauxhall now say that as I missed my service date by 10 weeks I am out of warranty and want ÂŁ5000 for a new engine! Local dealer agree that this is unrealistic as the mileage is so low. the say that there is no compression on cylinder 1 and 3.
Any advise or help on how to challenge this would be appreciated, I do not have ÂŁ5000 to have the repairs done. I feel that I am being targeted for low mileage as this would have happened at this mileage whether it was 6 months old or 15 months old.
Legally your warranty expired because you didn't have the annual service. It's in the warranty and service document and the website. 10 weeks is a long time to go over. You would not win in court so I would suggest calling Vauxhall customer service and beg them for an abnormal warranty claim authorisation using all your charm. However it sounds like they made their decision already.

We keep telling every DIY oil change enthusiast to ensure they use genuine oil and filters and keep dealer receipts if they do an extra oil change during the year, and get the service done at 12 months anyway to renew the warranty as per all the documents.

the only other avenue is to quote the consumer laws in force at the time (1994 act) which ignore warranty. Those laws say it should last a reasonable time irrespective of manufacturer warranty.

Did the car keep telling you Change Engine Oil soon on the dash?

Sale and Supply of Goods Act 1994
This Act says that all products have to be of a 'satisfactory quality'. This means that they have to:
be safe
last for a reasonable amount of time
be fit for their intended purpose
have nothing wrong with them (unless the defect was noted at the time of sale)

but see my previous post. you may have voided any claim due to negligently ignoring the maintenance schedule.

if your local BBC radio, like our BBC Three Counties, has a consumer hour they can be very effective and may constitute sufficient attempt at mediation for a subsequent small claims court action. You would tell the dealer of your plans.

you did 87.5 mph in a two week old 1 litre car? It's a bit much to ask a new engine. I might do 80mph for a short period to overtake once the engine had done 2000 miles/3 months and mine is 1.4NA.
I suspect it part seized. Some people have lost a conn rod through the block.
There is a major combustion fault with these and that kind of driving will surely find it out.

I simply cannot see how 140km/h should be a such a mess for a new 1.0T engine. But 140 has always been my maximum speed limit. I usually go for 120 on the highway.
That is maybe why it broke. Never heard of running-in a new engine?

If you pay for a new engine you would expect full warranty for the new part. When the engine is free replacement it reverts to the vehicle warranty. Quite normal.

I am aware the OP is not British.
In UK the manufacturers warranty does not override EU consumer rights either. You can file for a claim under UK/EU consumer laws beyond the warranty period, in the case of Vauxhall 3 years, if say a gearbox fell apart at 3 years 1 month. You would need to go to court.
The manufacturers warranty is the quibble free period. I was just stating GM's view and free replacements do not restart the warranty clock, whatever the length of the warranty. That way you could get a new engine every year for life especially if you drive Inappropriately.
