Of course I suspect it's the brake pads being worn down, as is the standard diagnosis.

What's the chances that if I, a complete novice, just replace the brake pads, the squeaking will be eliminated?

If I do this, do people have some nice tips/experience to share? :)

It's a 1.4SXi with 77k which I expect to drive until it dies.

Thanks for any help :)

Ahhh, just realised I've been silly and didn't check the MOT history before. It had an advisory for worn, pitted or scored front brake discs before.

However, it didn't get that as an advisory last time (June 2021), so I wonder if they replaced the brake discs and it can still be the pads that are an issue?

The only advisory it got last time was "n/s o/s front top/shock mounts slight play"; if someone can explain what to do with this that would be much appreciated.
