Managed to fix it was quite a struggle. The thing that happened was the metal rod which fits in and locks the seat in place had detached from the mechanism.
Took a while to put the spring back on the rod and now it all works fine.
Just incase anyone else got this problem

Hi There, I kiwi this is a an old discussion but live got the same problem on a 2013 Corsa I recently bought which is tin great condition except for the rear seat is stuck! I pull up the lever and onside moves and feels like the latch does release but the other side , I plug the lever the red button comes fully up but the catch is still fully locked.

I saw your thread and picture above but wondered how do you even get access to the loving mechanism? in one it seems well hidden behind some plastic moulded casing in the boot and I have no idea how to access or remove it . Do you need to remove the rear seat to get to the locks ? If anyone can help that would be great !( as I understand taking it to a vauxhall dealer /garage is likely to be 300-£400!?
