No sound on bluetooth calls

Post by Spionfox » Sun Jan 07, 2018 10:42 am

Hi - wife has a Moto E4plus and a Vauxhall Corsa with bluetooth. Every other handset she has had has given no problems but with the E4plus there is an issue. The phone will connect and the phone book is transferred OK but the problem is with speech through the car speakers. On out outgoing call the speakers mute the radio but do not allow the telephone call speech to play through. On at incoming call, the speakers mute the radio, the ringing tone comes through the speakers but again no speech through the speakers. The only way to solve this is to manually select the 'free speech' option on the car BT menu (as shown in attached image).

Anybody got any idea as to what causes this and what the solution may be?

Many thanks.

There may be a explanation: maybe the 4Plus handset has a non-standard or underperforming bluetooth chip (for example it doesn't automatically change some bits when the Bluetooth connection is made, and that's why you need to change it manually in the car menu).

If all the other handsets tried are OK, then it looks like the problem is in the handset, not the car. Get her a new handset :D
My wife likes the screen + software stability + battery life on the 'Samsung A9 Pro', and every manufacturer is building Samsung-(and Apple) compatible stuffs. Can't hurt to try it, and return it if it doesn't connect properly.

OK. So took the handset back to the retailer and they exchanged it with no problem or argument needed. (Excellent customer service!). Sadly though the new E4plus handset behaves in exactly the same way so it looks like a refund and a different model. Shame as in every other way the E4plus was ideal.
