"Service ESC". All power and control lost. non-start

Post by danmurphy93 » Sat Jan 14, 2017 9:43 am

Hello

I am the owner of a 2015 Corsa 1.4 SRI Ecoflex which is displaying a message saying "Service ESC". I was turning a corner and the Stability Control symbol lit up on the dashboard and i lost complete control of my steering which nearly directed me into oncoming traffic. I applied the brakes and struggled to get the wheels to turn to the direction i wanted to go (to pull over on the side of the road). As I pulled over, the car cut out completely and a very strong smell of burning came into the car. I was unable to start the car again and the same message continues to show on the screen. Is anybody able to advise on what may have happened and whether this is covered under Vauxhall's Warranty?

Many Thanks

Daniel Murphy

It will be a warranty claim. Get them to recover it via the AA and tell them that it's too dangerous to drive. If they argue about it, call Vauxhall Assistance (AA) yourself, and get them to take it straight to dealer. Until they strip it down, you can only speculate as to what has happened, and it could be one of many things. Based on what you have described, my first thoughts would be that the module itself has shorted and burned out.

I had a similar experience but without the smell. Vauxhall dealer was totally unhelpful, advised me to drive it if I wanted. Although under warranty (16 months old) the 1 year AA had ran out so if I felt the car was undriveable, I would have to get the car to the dealer myself! Spoke to my village garage mechanic who assisted me in getting the car to Thurlow Useless of Norwich.

The connector into one of the computer modules was loose causing loss of power steering and the ESC fault. Try pushing in all of the obvious connectors.

There is a recall for loss of steering, if you look on the Government website for car recalls it's listed for Corsa E, chassis no's x to x.

My corsa has suddenly been throwing this up on its dash. I did a OBD check and no faults have been found. I don’t lose power or steering, lose the Rev counter and temp gauge. When I take the key out, open the drive so the ignition goes properly off, lock the doors for a minute, unlock them and start the engine, the TC light has gone off and all gauges are back to normal

This happened to me - Vauxhall did a software upgrade under warranty.
