Camshaft trouble

Post by opcorsae » Mon Mar 12, 2018 6:56 pm

Hi. I recently changed the tappets. I observe the following in my camshaft: https://imgur.com/a/my7Y3

It is a line, probably made by the negligence of the mechanic or a blow. Is it worrying?

Annoying! Any scratch below the surface will simply carry more oil. Any eruption of metal proud of the surface around the impact point could be very carefully stoned off but I doubt it would last very long if you just leave it and you don't want abrasive in the oil A fingertip could assess if anything is standing really proud.
It could also be surface breakout but that is serious fatigue/lube problem. The other cam surface looks more grainy.

Hi Susan.

Then, it is normal?

Car works fine, it has 2000 miles.
