Possible handbrake issue

Post by SylvE » Fri Dec 28, 2018 5:00 pm

A couple of times when I've parked on my drive just lately, the handbrake feels odd. It feels kind of empty when I pull it up and it's silent. I always press the button in to put the handbrake on.

You shouldn't put the button in when putting on..let it click up and that way it engages correctly...a few years back Vx had problems with the Vectra running away and this was their advice...even sent us all a little sticker as a reminder..

Other than that look for stretched cables or worn shoes/pads..

That's very interesting and goes against the advice given when I was younger that you should always press the button when pulling on the handbrake to avoid wear on the ratchet.
