Steering Wheel Airbag Cover - Is this a big job?

Hi all,

I'm not the best with cars. The link above shows my steering wheel.

I've managed to split the leather on the front of the Airbag Cover over time.

I can get a replacement from eBay for around £60 delivered. This doesn't include a new airbag as I don't need one, it's just the cover.

My question is, is it a big job to take the airbag out of the old cover and put it in the new one?

The car goes back in July and I'm worried it will get flagged.

Thanks in advance.

Kind regards.

Airbag removal requires great care because you need to ensure the trigger capacitors are completely discharged before you disconnect it. It unclips from behind the wheel. Haynes have a new manual out for the Corsa E which should cover the procedure. The important thing is to ensure the bag does not go off while you are handling it as you may be very seriously injured as a result.

Disconnect the battery for a start

Not sure if the airbag come with their own battery back up but wait 30 mins before attempting to take airbag off to avoid it deploying

The Haynes manual does have details for removing the airbag assembly (surprisingly), but not for any disassembly. IMHO it would be better to have it done by someone who knows what they're doing.

Thanks for the replies, I got a guy who can do it. Just wondering if I can just buy a new cover for it rather than the cover AND the airbag.

This is the airbag cover.
My version of this has a split in it.

Is is possible to take the airbag out of my cover and put it into this one?

Kind regards.
