Windscreen wiper hell

Post by jbomb » Sat Jan 06, 2018 7:04 pm

Hi guys,

Newbie to the forum here.

I've got a special edition; had it a couple of years from new. And this winter the wipers have been diving me mad.
Every now and then (usually when theyre needed most!) the driver side wiper clips the passenger side wiper - it also doesn't sit flush on the windscreen, so there are big patches that don't get touched when it's doing its thing. I’ve bent the wiper as flat as I can get it but it feels like too much of a bodge, and it doesn’t really fix it anyway.

The main thing is I just want to replace the wiper blades with some that aren't the aero/flat style, as that can't be helping matters..

I've had a quick google and couldn't really find much in the way of alternatives so was hoping you lot may have a better idea!

Thanks in advance!!

If it's still under warranty get them to take a look at the wiper assembly and motors under the bonnet, it's not unusual for things to work loose on these causing issues with the wipers touching and juddering on the screen.

If your blades are two years old you might just need new blades to be fair. But yeah if it's under warranty, throw it back at Vauxhall if new blades don't fix it.

It's going in for a service next week anyway, so I'll get them to have a look.

I still think I want some non-aero style wiper blades though if they exist??

Non-aero ones still exist, however they won't fit the existing wiper arms. A determined individual can force some classic wiper arms in, I'm sure.

But one thing to have in mind: everybody and their dog is fitting/retrofitting aero blades: they are miles better for drag, and for wiping at high freeway speeds where they tend to stick to the windscreen instead of lifting off like non-aero ones do.

Non aero blades go with Vauxhall Victors. The Corsa screen angle needs blades designed for the job.
If your blades touch then the linkage or arms are at fault as was mentioned earlier.

Cheers, I get that. I’ve had aero blades on all my past cars.

They’re just so floppy, I want something with more substance that could do a better job of clearing. My view.

Are you seriously suggesting I buy wiper blades for a 50+ year old car??

 Was going to say I think it was an attempt at humor rather than a serious suggestion. In that non-aero blades belong in that era!

Wasn't banter. Just fact. Some "vintage" stuff needs to stay in the past along with vinyl and socialism.
