Corsa E 1.4 fuel consumption

Post by vangelismav » Fri Apr 13, 2018 8:28 am

Hello to everyone! I am happy that i found out that there is such a forum, since i really like the corsa cars.
I was owner of Corsa C, now i own a Corsa D and i am about to replace it with a Corsa E 1.4 manual. Crazy,e?

What i am concerning is the fuel consumption of the Corsa E's 1.4 90 ps engine with manual gear box.

With my current Corsa D, I am daily doing 38 km (23 miles) home-work-home, and it consumes about 8.1 l/100km (29 mpg).
On a trip outside city it gets better. The best i saw, with car loaded, was 6.9 l/100 km (34 mpg).

I am reading that the E model's engine is slightly improved over the previous one (in order to meet euro 6 standard).
My major concern is if the new one will have better consumption or i will face the same number.

Since it is not a new design, i don't expect miracles, but i could very happy if i had 1 l/100km difference.
Can i expect that? Is these values feasible?

Btw, in my country, the 1.0 litre turbo 3 cylinder with 90 ps is not available.

Any opinion or experience would be very helpful to me and to my concerns!
Thank you in advance!

Hello,

You will be seeing better than 29 MPG.

I have the 1.4T 150 and still manage 35MPG round town.

If you can I suggest you look at the 115BHP they’re the best for short journeys and town driving as good at low revs.

Hope this helps!

You manage 35 mpg round town with 150 ps? Impessive!
That's the benefits of turbo cars: high torque in low rev.

Unfortunately the 115BHP's cost is above my budget.

My year long average is 38mpg on an automatic 1.4 90ps.
Mostly 8 mile shopping trips these days.
44 on a long run.
I pay extra car tax for the privilege of pumping out a tad more clean CO2 than the manual so you should do better.
CO2 is essential for crop production so they should pay me really.

Automatic gear engine usual consumes more than manual gear.

So, If you do 38 mpg (7.4 L /100 km) with auto, then with manual gear the consumption would be surely better, as you say so too.
That's good news!!!

The auto is low geared . 2900 rpm at 70 mph in sixth.
Will not shift from 5th to 6th under 40 mph.

Since you mentioned, I wonder how many mph it gets with 5th gear and 3000 rpm.
I mean the 1.4 90 with manual gear.

The 1.4 90 hp manual gets around 68 mph (110 km/h) at 3000 rpm 5th gear.

Alex, thank you for the info.
110 km/h (68 mph) is much better from Corsa D perfomance which gets 97 km/h (60mph).
This means (if i understand correctly) that the Corsa E's consumption will be lower, in hih speed trip, since the same speed requires lower rpm, willn't it?

Of course, it might mean lower performance too, such as accelaration but we can't have it all.
