HELP! Does YOUR Heating Work - Sting R 1.0T?

Post by ukdude » Fri Aug 04, 2017 3:50 pm

Hi all. New to Corsa and the forum. Recently acquired a Sting R 1.0T (15 plate ~15K miles). Fun car and great engine.

Have an issue that the heating does not work under certain conditions! Spoke to local dealer/VX UK, as car under warranty, and they say oh, it's got an electro-mechanical on demand water pump and cooling system. So when the car is up to operating temp (~96C) and below 2,000RPM, the pump does not work, thus no heating. If the car had air con, it would work - mine does not have a/c tho. Sounds bogus and utter nonsense to me.

Anybody else have a Sting R (1.0T, 15 plate-ish) without a/c and their heating does NOT work when the car is warmed up and at lower engine (i.e. road) speeds?

Many thanks! :)

Sounds like a load of rubbish to me as well. A proper fob off!

The heating system in the Corsa I would imagine to be no different to most other cars in that it loops off the engine coolant system. You won't get any heat right away until the engine has started to warm up but after that it should be consistent.

You should be able to go on a 5-10 mile drive, park up somewhere and bang the heaters on full. With the engine still running of course its should be kicking out a nice heat. What are you meant to do in winter if you have to park up and wait for someone, sit there freezing lol.

Yup - sounds like complete BS to me. Design a car where the heating turns off? What utter nonsense.

Love to hear from other Sting R 1.0T owners though... :)

Be interesting to see if this is a 'feature' on other Corsa Sting's yeah (It's STING by the way not STRING lol).

Thinking about it now, if a main dealer tried to tell me that the heaters only worked above 2000rpm engine revs I genuinely think I would laugh in their face and then get mad about them trying to fob me off with such a ridiculous excuse.

Cars from the 70s and 80s could have their heaters running full bore with the engines idling, no issues.

Maybe Vauxhall are looking to save the planet and it's a new eco feature

That does sound like a load of crap. Even at idle the temp would quickly rise if the water pump wasn't running!

The operating temp of the 1 litre is 103 degrees celcius. I believe it haves an electronic thermostat, because when i rag my car the temperature falls to 85-86 degrees. Besides all that, the heater should work under any condition when the coolant has gotten a little bit warm

Thanks for that - and can you confirm that your heating does work, when you are pootling around town at say 30mph (with a warmed up engine)? Many thanks.
