screw in tyre

Post by john002 » Sun Sep 02, 2018 8:20 am

I have a screw in the first quarter of the tread, if the Tyre fitters say it's to close to the edge can they fit a tube ? or will this upset the Tyre sensors .

As it's only done 12000 miles would like to save it if possible.

Thanks

If it's too close too close to the edge it will mean a new tyre, you can't put a tube in to repair it.

I just paid £82 per tyre incl balance. Not worth faffing around. Book a new tyre online with your local fitter to get a good price and resist all add-on attempts to adjust tracking etc.
Once the tyre is off they have you by the short n curlies on price.
A tube valve stem wouldn't "upset" the sensor it would completely replace it. Illegal also.

Not a text book answer but I’ve had to do it when penny pinching times, or had a newish tyre. Screw it in the rest if it’s ticking and put a can of ‘holts tyre weld’ from any high street supermarket for £6ish. 👍🏼 (Done at own risk)

Is it possible for the Tyre people to send it away to have a molded repair if this is what its called ?

As Susan 44 says once they have you are in their hands,

But We have a full size spare so I will put this on before going tomorrow , see what they say and have a price from web whats on offer.

Thanks to all

They vulcanise a patch on the inside of the tyre on site. They cannot do this if...
1. Hole is too near the edge.
2. Gone in at a shallow angle even if away from the edge.
3. You have used tyre gunge, as it stops the patch sticking.
1 2 and 3 write off the tyre.
