Leaking radiator

Post by MattySpencer » Sun Mar 10, 2019 6:54 pm

Bit of an issue with the rad, noticed the car was loosing coolant at a steady pace around 4 weeks ago, eventually found the problem, leaking radiator, took the bumper off to see how bad it was and there is some damage to the rear of the radiator, the fan isn’t secure at all and looks as though it has been knocking against the rad for some time now, all the teeth have been ripped apart. Does anyone else’s fan judder when you touch it? Looks like it might me missing a screw holding it in place, just looks like it’s on little plastic clips that are not secure at all. Also has anyone fitted their own new radiator and how easy is it? Don’t fancy paying Vauxhall to do it.

Haynes manual suggests you need to remove the front bumper as well as draining the system and uncoupling all the connectors. Even more involved if aircon fitted.

Do have A/C in vehicle, bumper removal no problem just not sure in the rest! Looks pretty fiddly to get out. Any ideas?

With aircon, the manual suggests that you undo the four mounting brackets and separate the condenser from the radiator and suspend the condenser from the bonnet lock platform using cable ties to avoid straining the refrigerant lines. Undo the retaining bolts on both sides and remove the front section of the subframe. Then the radiator can be lowered out through the bottom of the vehicle, disengaging it from the upper mountings. Good luck!
