Smashed threw a farmers fence !! Repairable ??

Post by Jamiebhoy91 » Wed Jan 30, 2019 7:32 pm

Had a slight accident on a back road few weeks back my corsas only done 20thousand miles so I don’t want to write it of it looks repairable but at what cost ?? The stearings fked also only the passenger wheel turns luckily my brothers a mechanic who will take a look soon.. would I be better buying a rear ended write off? And what if the written of corsa happened to be the same year vxr or newer would the parts be swappable ? Even a few added extras seats exhaust suspension ??? ? It’s a 65Plate 1.4

Needs a new door / bonnet / bumper / drivers side wing / light

You'd be better off having it written off. Repairable possibly, however I imagine the cost would be lot more than what its worth and I can't imagine it'll necessarily drive the same after it's been repaired. Really depends on how the chassis is.

My Corsa D got written off back in 2008 and that had a twisted chassis and ended up being a CAT C.

You must have been going some to cause that amount of damage going through a fence that's for sure.

I'd say it doesn't look TOO bad.

The real question is if the load-bearing chassis still has the correct geometry. If that's ok (i.e. no twisting, deforming...etc), then you can think about repairing.

If the chassis is deformed, correcting it will be a expensive pain and I'd cut my losses in that case.

Your insurance company will do the calculation and let you know. It looks to me as if the shell may have been compromised around the A pillar, with potential suspension and front subframe damage - in which case it will be scrapped. If it was 3 months old on a 68 plate you might have had a chance.

The reason I’m thinking of just keeping it as I can get it fixed for next to nothing as my brothers a mechanic for ford it would just be parts the chassis looks fine he hasn’t had a chance to get it on a lift yet, a could probably get it fixed for under a grand if I buy the right parts car it’s only done 20 thousand miles other than the damage it’s a perfect runner the fence post just clipped the side light area and ripped the side panel off
