Apple CarPlay and iOS 12.3.1

Post by Moog70 » Thu Jun 13, 2019 1:46 pm

Hi all,

Has anyone had any connectivity issues with CarPlay (Intellilnk R4) since updating their device from 12.1.4 to 12.3.1

I for one have, as CarPlay now only launches when it feels like it, and drops the connection in a similar fashion - I.e. Randomly, even mid-call.

Husband has mentioned that a lot of Land/Range Rovers with CarPlay are also experiencing similar, so can only assume that manufacturers will need to write a software patch to accommodate Apple's meddling interference. Dealer is also unaware of any issues, but the telling sign is that I only updated a fortnight ago, and it's not been right ever since.

Anyone else? Or just me?......

Thanks for the reply.

It doesn't matter what App is launched via CarPlay, it drops the front-end screen when it suits. This morning I was mid-telephone conversation and it just disappeared, the screen reverted back to the radio, and CarPlay would not re-establish a connection even unplugging and reconnecting iPhone.

Seems that there is some code in the later iOS that is playing havoc with connections to CarPlay.....not just for GM/Opel/Vauxhall but others as well....

My IPhone is updated with the latest software, had no issues with carplay, playing music, or making calls, all works fine.

Update on this:

Vehicle returned from dealers this afternoon - diagnostics tested ok. Changed USB cable to an original Apple lead, and hey Presto! All back up and running again.

It would appear that in the update recently applied, Apple have written some code that prevents the use of Non-approved accessories....this includes cables. I seem to recall they did this a few years ago as well with the iPhone 4, so as to force you to buy extortionately expensive Apple-only products.

All part of the Global domination that they crave it would seem

Hi I am new to the forum just bought my son a corsa 2015 1.4 Sri, I bought an apple play for him. When we managed to take old the old touch screen radio we noticed that the connection was different. His has a big black multi plug and the apple play had 2 connections, is there a cable converter we could buy.
Any help would be great.
