How to know which brake pads without the car

Post by Mc89 » Wed Mar 18, 2020 4:45 pm

Hi all, apologies if this is in the wrong section and also the sheer stupidity of my post.

I'm a decent amateur mechanic but currently living apart from the mrs for work and she needs her pads changing for her MOT next week so I need to get it done this weekend.

I've put her reg in on the usual sites but it's giving me multiple options for brake systems, I did a bit of digging and asked for a picture of the caliper as I believe theres a spring clip that makes it obvious?
This is what I got...

I'm not overly familiar with Vauxhall and that doesn't really help me as I can't see enough but I'm hoping someone knowledgable on here will be able to help. Normally I'd just look but a 200 mile round trip just to quickly look at her brakes seems a bit mad

Any help is greatly appreciated

I had a similarly issue a few weeks ago, I found out there is 3 sizes of front discs
Don't quote me on this, sure the size is 257mm 284mm and 305mm

I have the 1l turbo and the discs are 284mm

So what is the engine size, of the car, you could then work out the correct disc pads

I would then presume it has the 257mm front discs, but don't quote me on that,

Let's see if some one can confirm this 100%

In the end I had to take a disc and pad into the local motorist shop to find out which one was correct, that's how I know there is 3 sizes

Thinking the 1.2 and 1.4 have the 257mm disc
The 1l and 1.4 turbos have the 284mm disc
And the vxr has the 305 discs

But like I said don't quote me on this.

Some of the sites on ebay can get the correct parts via your reg number. I also get multiple listings that are impossible to figure out.
