Has anyone had experience with this fault code.
The car is idling rough (the rev counter is stable), pull off is rough and lack of power.
I have seen something about spark plugs and ignition coil - both are on order (due tomorrow).
Is there anything else that could be an issue?

Most likely coil pack / plugs. Whats the age/mileage of your car? Please come back to the forum if a new coil pack and plugs don't cure the problem.

Mileage is around 29200 - most of it has been motorway driving

P0301 is Engine Misfire Cylinder 1
It will be the spark plug probably corrosion
I had similar on mine with Cylinder 4 and when i took the spark plug out there was surface rust on it
As advised would put a new coil pack on as well
The issue is VX recommend changing spark plugs every 4 years which is too long in my book

Plug 1 has better days. Replaced all 4 and ignition coil. All seems ok. Will see how the 56 mile journey to work goes tomorrow.

Based on the rust showing on the spark plug, someone suggested I get a compression test done of the cylinder as there may be water getting in.
Any thoughts?

tell tales signs are
Coolant level dropping
Continuious white smoke coming from Exhaust
White substance on underneath of oil cap
You should only do a compression test if engine is still running rough or is lacking power
If everything is fine then I would not worry

No smoke, oil cap is fine and coolant levels are good.
The car seems to be running smotothly now - will see how my trip to work goes tomorrow.

If the car is pressured washed is there a chance water has overflowed from top of bonnet/windscreen onto coil pack, just a thought.
