1.4T 150 remap?

Post by WhiteEditionDan » Wed May 02, 2018 5:38 pm

So, seen a few discussion about remapping the 1.4T 100 and getting a little better results than the 150 but has anyone remapped the 150? I have had a quote for £250 which will boost 150>170 bhp and 225torque > 285.

What do you guys think? Will the car handle it or will it kill the gearbox in a few k miles.

Not sure if the 150 runs the same gearbox as the VXR either.

Cheers!

They all remap to the same or thereabouts. Just the restricted to 100hp 1.4T variant gets a bigger gain because it's so screwed down from the factory. I had mine done a few months ago (1.4T VX-Line 100hp) and it has completely transformed the car.

Even on a White/Red/Black edition it would be worthwhile as your going to gain 20-30bhp and 20-30lb-ft. Having it mapped on premium unleaded like tesco momentum, vpower will give the best results, but bear in mind if you have it mapped to premium fuel you really should use the same stuff from then on. Going back down to normal 95RON might cause knock in hot weather and on these engines I wouldn't want to risk that. You can have it mapped on normal fuel, but might not get quite as much out of it, though there would still be a gain.

Should be fine to handle the power, just don't rag it from cold and drive it with mechanical sympathy. I was under the impression that the 1.4T runs the same box as the VXR maybe just slightly different ratios. But might be wrong on that. It was the 1 litre 3 cylinder thing that got a lightweight box that was different.

Thanks for the reply mate!

I only run it on Tesco 99 as it is so no difference there.

The company that want to do it said the increase will be 150>170 bhp and 225>285torque!

Yeah, sounds about right. I had mine done at SGR in Rochdale, would recommend if your not too far from there.

Mine made good power. They got 178bhp and 203lb-ft torque (275nm) out of it on their dyno - completely standard but run on Tesco 99.
The guy doing the mapping said it had a strong engine (it ran 111bhp and 149lb-ft standard). Some people mess about with de-cats, air filters and exhaust and don't really get much more. So fair happy with that lol.

Even if their dyno is a tad optimistic, it feels that sort of power just going off what it can keep pace with now and the cars I've had in the past. I've always had hot hatches but had to buy this car when I bought a house, just missed the power too much so it ended up getting the remap treatment

Just needs some springs now to sort the shite handling out

Good to know the results Matt, was considering a remap on mines. I have the same engine so its good to know it seems to be worth it. Gonna wait till warranty is up.

A remap is always worth it on a turbo car. Even if you 'only' see a 20bhp and 20lb-ft' gain at peak, the power curve is improved right across the rev range. So it's not all about the headline figure if you will. £250-£350 for that gain is pretty good. People spend more than that on a full exhaust system and might see 4-5bhp if they're lucky... so you're getting better value in that sense lol.

I got the 1.4 150 white edition. does the remap void the warranty and cause any problems when first service etc is done by vauxhall ?

If your going to do it, I would wait until AFTER the first service. Reason being is that they do give the car a good check over to make sure everything's running right. They also check for any recalls and you can also request them to check for any software updates for the ECU and intellilink. Might as well get all that done and know the car is sweet first.

Ordinarly on a service it wouldn't be plugged into diagnostics unless you've reported an issue that requires an ECU read. I'm also not sure dealer level diagnostics will be able to tell an ECU has been messed with. They might be able to get the log files off it and compare to standard however which would show up that something has changed.

That's the risk you take having a car that's under 3 years old remapped. It will void the warranty on the engine/gearbox/drivetrain should it be discovered.
