torque wrench setting

Post by geoff4e » Thu Jul 19, 2018 2:26 pm

Hi anyone know the torque wrench setting for the rear brake drum hub nut. (2015 Corsa 1.4 )

I want to teach my nephew how to change the rear drum brakes he's at collage doing a car mechanics course and now on his summer brake an ideal chance to get some practical work done with a few jobs on my wife's car.
A case of teaching the next generation.

Thanks Geoff

I doubt many would know that.

For corsa-D there was the 'haynes workshop manual' which had these kind of info, I'm sure the internet would still have some .pdf copies somewhere (if not: https://haynes.com/en-gb/car-manuals/vauxhall)

For corsa E there doesn't seem to be such manual yet (but to consider: many a systems are rather similar or even identical between corsa D and E) .

Alternatively, I'd expect torque to tighten = 80- 90% or so from torque to loosen. How to measure it ... is another story

Another idea you could try, to see what torque is on the nut now,
Set the torque wrench at say 50lb, and try and tighten the nut, if the wrench clicks, adjust it to 60lbs, keep going till you get no click,

Dare I say it but you could try and ring VX Technical Department and see if they have the figure

If I ever needed to know anything I either rang VX to see if they know - just explain some rubbish like the brakes have locked up and you had to undo it to unseize the pads - i'm always making crap up that they seem to believe, or my other method is to go to a VX branch and just 'catch' a mechanic walking about, usually works. They see it as 'customer service' and don't want to be reported for being ignorant so generally oblige from experience.
