Dealer Diagnostic Fee

Post by Susan44 » Mon Aug 06, 2018 4:09 pm

When booking car in to have rear wiper repaired the Norwich based dealer said if it is not covered by warranty there would be a £90 diagnostic fee.
Eh?
I said presumaby only if I decide to take it away and fix it myself.
They said no it is chargeable anyway plus repair.
I was tempted to say I could save £90 by telling them the self park contact in the wiper motor was broken and needs a new unit but hubby said dont be sarky.
Surely a rear wiper that no longer self parks and does a quarter wipe in intermittent is a warranty repair?
Anyone else had this bolx?

Only thing you manage to get repaired under warranty are non moving parts such as sensors

If its a moving part "wear and tear" comes into play

Wear and tear is that caused by the owner. If the blade had been ripped off damaging the motor I could understand it.
So you think engines and transmissions are not covered by warranty??
In any case their policy means no repair can cost less than £90 surely.

I have just read the warranty exceptions.
e.g. a rock hits the transmission casing.
wear and tear/accident. Not covered.
Drive shaft fails and hits the casing breaking it. Covered.
All moving parts in engine and transmission are covered unless you fiddle with it like remapping, or using Asda oil.

The only way out of not covering the rear wiper motor is frost or corrosion damage. However if that was caused by a failed seal I would take them to court over it.

However thr subject of this thread is the "diagnostic fee" on top of repair charges. Anyone heard of that?

Yes , unfortunately all the makers now charge a fee if the repair isn't covered under the warranty, if it is under warranty there's no fee to pay.

Jeez!
D-i-a-g-n-o-s-t-i-c fee.
I expect to pay for repairs out of warranty but why the £90 for 15 minutes of diagnosis?

Apparently it applies to all fault repairs not just watranty. That means a £90 minimum labour charge. I wonder what they charge if I just take it in and say "Please replace the water pump". No diagnostics there
Thurlow Nunn by the way.
Took it in today. Lets see...

There's always been a minimum labour charge although they just keep increasing it hence why they are referred to as stealers

Reminds me when I changed my gear stick. Took all of 10 seconds to do it but I bet they would have charged me 30 minutes labour as a minimum
