Turbo Town

Post by stredon » Mon May 06, 2019 8:09 pm

Hello all,

Long time lurker now turned first time poster.

Apologies if this (it probably has) question has been asked before but I am stumped and need some advice!

I currently have a deposit placed on a used 1.4T LE but I'm having doubts as to whether I should opt for the 90ps. The car would be used during the week for a 10 mile commute to & from work consisting of 30s, 50s and a short NSL stretch. The 1L turbo is off the list due to reliability issues I've heard about & the 75ps is just too slow, leaving either the 90ps or the turbo within my price range.

A common theme I keep seeing is the 1.4T is better suited to motorway driving and needs to be reigned in while driving at residential speeds whereas the 90ps feels like it needs another gear at NSL speeds, stuck between a rock and a hard place.

If any 1.4T owners could comment how they find the engine around town it would help tremendously!

Cheers

1.4T is fine around town, I drive mine quick and manage 40ish mpg. On run I get north of 50mpg if I behave myself.

My wife had a new 1.4 turbo in September last after ten years of driving around in 75ps variants. She loves it and it is a very docile animal at shopping speeds around town. She visits her parents in Wales and appreciates the extra power for overtaking. Fuel consumption is about the same as before but obviously if you use your right foot more it will be affected.
