Wheel Respray

Post by LW-VXLine » Wed Sep 04, 2019 3:04 pm

Can anyone give me some advice on respraying my Standard VX Line wheels black.

I’m happy enough to send them off and get it done professionally but if you guys have any ideas how I can do it myself just as good for cheaper I’d love to hear them.

Thanks

If theres no damage to them its fairly easy.
clean them to remove all dirt.
Then sand them with like 600 grit then a finer grit.
Use a blower to remove all the dust
Use degreaser to make sure the surface is clean and then give it a bit of time for the surface to dry up a bit
Spray 3 or 4 layers of grey primer wait 15 to 20 mins between layers
Wait a 1 hour or so
Spray black spray do a good 4 layers or so waiting 15 or 20 mins again
Wait another hour or so
Then do a minumum of 3 layers of lacquer, more layers means its more glossy.

For the center caps you can remove the Vauxhall badge from it then do the spray process for the wheels.

Thats a rough idea the process will be, mine came out alright but I'm a student so wasn't in the mood to spend £200+ to get my wheels refurbed.

Before clear coat

Clear coated but a week or so after

Its not the best job but only cost £30 or £40 pounds so I'm happy with it.

Personally I would get them done professionally i.e. acid dipped and powder coated

The only issue is if you have TPMS and the sensors which are stuck to the inside of the wheel and any potential damage that may be caused removing them

Always worth checking on that point with the wheel referb company
