I have always drained the oil through the sump plug but am considering using a vacuum pump through the dipstick tube.
Anyone else use this method for the 1.2 petrol engine?

Would that remove all of the sludge that settles at the bottom of the sump? I know professionals use this method but this is for speed.

I’m interested in the response to this too. What are the risks using an oil extractor pump instead of the sump plug? I can’t see why it would cause any problems?

I would always spend the time to drain properly! Take the plug out a new seal costs a few pence and then you’re gonna get loads of the crap out the engine too! As already mentioned the sludge collects I the sump and best way is to drain it so the oil drags it out
